Tradition Meets Exploration

I’m Dr. Adrianna Gonzalez, doctor of acupuncture and Chinese medicine.

I began my journey with Chinese Medicine in 2001 in Flagstaff, Arizona while studying qigong and the internal martial arts; Taijiquan, Xingyiquan, and Baguaquan with Dr. Miranda Warburton and the North American Tang Shou Tao.

After training for three years and personally experiencing the transformative and profound healing effects of the internal martial arts combined with Acupuncture, Tuina, and Craniosacral therapy, it became clear that I wanted to devote my life to helping others heal with Chinese medicine.

I moved to Santa Cruz in 2004 to attend Five Branches University. While getting my Masters degree I continued to train and teach the internal martial arts and received my black belt in Kajukembo. I also became a certified massage therapist, studied Thai massage in Thailand and continued taking Craniosacral courses through the Upledger Institute. During this time, I apprenticed with Dr. Vince Black in Tucson, Arizona and completed clinical internships at

Zhejiang Medical University in Hongzhou, China. I’ll always be deeply grateful to all of my teachers who’ve helped her me develop my personal cultivation and the skills to help others.

Upon completion of my Masters degree in 2008, I continued on to complete an intensive 1088+ hour accredited apprenticeship and clinical training program with Dr. Miranda Warburton and Dr. Jennifer Minor, in Traditional Chinese Orthopedic Massage (Jin Shou Tuina) and Craniosacral therapy. I taught Tuina at Five Branches University and have taught Qi gong, Taiqiquan and Xingyiquan in private and public classes.

I’ve been in clinical practice since 2008 and a part of Santa Cruz Integrative Medicine since 2009. In 2018 I received my doctorate from Five Branches University.

My treatments are generally a combination of Tuina, Acupuncture, and Craniosacral. I also love to educate my patients and weave in nutrition, herbs, Qi gong exercises, meditation, and breathing techniques.

Ultimately, my goal is to empower my patients to find their inner wisdom using Chinese Medicine and I give them tools to help access this in and out of the treatment room.

I’m grateful for so many things in my personal life, in particular, to be married to the love of my life and for our amazing son Zane who I just adore. Getting tackled by my son, spending time with family, being in nature, Qi gong, practicing internal martial arts, meditation retreats, hiking, and traveling are some of my favorite things.

Why Jade Phoenix?

“Dreams are a part of our heart and soul

Our dreams go to the depths of our thoughts,

Wants, and needs to fulfill our destiny.

In Order to Fulfill our destiny we must

fulfill our dream.”

~J.R. Davis 1994

I have always loved the stone jade. In China, jade is a symbol of purity, strength, deep spirituality, and good health. It is also known as the “dream stone” and as the “stone of fidelity,” bringing realization to one’s potential and devotion to one’s purpose. It helps to attune one to the needs of others and inspires wisdom during the assessment of problems. It promotes the balancing of one’s needs with the requirements of the day, allowing one recognize and to care for that which is of prime importance to well-being.

I chose the Jade Phoenix as my logo many years ago. It came to me after a very challenging experience, a dark night of the soul. My body and my spirit felt broken and they were. I had broken both of my arms and I felt very lost. This experience of deep suffering gave me clarity, a new perspective, and a new beginning in life. It transformed me. The story of the phoenix rising from its ashes really resonated with me. I was also deeply aware at the time as I was healing that what I really loved doing with patients was helping them transform on every level. I also became painfully aware after my experience that although some transformation does occur after deep suffering not all transformation has to be so painful. I realized I wanted to start transforming with more ease and joy and wanted to help others do the same.

Chinese Medicine Modalities

Acupuncture is a traditional Chinese medicine technique that has been used for over 2,000 years to treat a variety of physical and emotional conditions. When combined with other modalities like gua sha, cupping, and tui na, acupuncture can offer a holistic approach to healing that addresses both the physical and emotional aspects of a person's health.
